One of the most life-giving highlights of serving at Community First! (CF!) is the opportunity to give up an up close, behind the scenes look into what has evolved into a miraculous movement of God. It’s an awesome privilege to share! We have given CF! tours to countless thousands of folks from the Austin area and way beyond. There are a few “nuggets” that are strongly emphasized on these tours, including:
- the single greatest cause to homelessness is the profound, catastrophic loss of family
- housing will never solve the problem of homelessness, but community will
- a lot of what we do in the name of compassion is transactional, not relational (personal note: we believe at CF! that nothing beats a human to human, heart to heart connection)
- little is much when God is in it (this is conveyed as we conclude the tour by sharing how the original leaders of Mobile Loaves & Fishes could not have possibly imagined the dream of Community First! when making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the first MLF truck runs 20 years ago)
Community is aptly defined as a group of people sharing a common interest and relating together. We call this #BetterTogether and it is something The Gathering believes God is miraculously bringing to life. We recently witnessed #BetterTogether following two weekend retreats at Camp Buckner under the theme #BetterTogether (one for the men of CF! and one for the women of CF! and all served by faithful, loving volunteers). This is a living example of what happens in the beautiful community called the body of Christ. Watch this!
We would love to invite you to our special Easter sunrise service coming up Sunday, April 1 at 7:17am at CF! Come and see! This promises to be a powerful, Christ-centered celebration of what God is doing to resurrect and restore the lives of men and women. RSVP here!
Thank you for praying, caring and investing in The Gathering at Community First! We are a Christ-centered, life-giving ministry 100% donor-funded through generous, tax-deductible contributions at this link.
